Joann Needleman is Vice President of Maurice & Needleman, P.C., where she is the Managing Attorney of the firm’s Philadelphia office. Joann has extensive litigation experience in state and federal courts, successfully defending creditors against claims brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act and, in Pennsylvania, under the Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act. She provides counsel, consultation and litigation services to financial institutions, law firms and debt buyers throughout the country.

 

Joann has been included by Law & Politics Magazine in the list of the top 50 female lawyers in the state of Pennsylvania, and has been included in the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list in Bankruptcy & Debtor/Creditor Rights.1 Joann is peer-rated BV by Martindale-Hubbell, the nationwide guide to lawyers.2 Joann is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania & New Jersey, as well as the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association and is a past president of the Pennsylvania Creditors' Bar Association. In addition, Joann is a MAP Attorney member of the American Collectors Association and serves as Secretary to the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA), as well as being a member of its Board of Directors.

As the Co-Chair of NARCA’s Public Affairs Committee, Joann has taken the lead for the industry in response to the current demand by Congress for FDCPA reform. She consults regularly with legislators and regulators including the FTC and has formulated the NARCA position to the FTC’s report: Collecting Consumer Debts: The Challenges of Change.
